Zen like experience by having a coffee

Nov 3, 2012 | | 0 comments

One thing which I can say is a great thing to do in Japan is being in a cafe. Where you go doesn’t matter much. Tully’s, Doutor, Cafe de Crie ..you name it….. Why?

Because they are clean and the people working there are very very polite. Customers speak quietly so there is not much noise. Usually the volume of the music is kept low so there is a tranquility in the cafe.

You can experience a Zen like feeling having a coffee and biscuits whose tastes are normally lighter than western ones. Cafes in Japan are great places to read a book with a hint of meditation.

Sake ( Nihon shu) and Wine

Jul 25, 2012 | | 0 comments

I love Sake. Nihon shu to be more precise.
I like its taste and aroma and its transparency like pure water.. But there is more to it.

About a few years ago I was so refreshed, relaxed, and eased after a sip. (Just let you know that I’m not alcoholic!) But I felt this rather a bit strange experience. I didn’t know what happened to me but felt some kind of new realisation about myself .. I really enjoyed sake from the bottom of my heart. I mean..I really mean it… I realised I had been rooted to the world of sake.

I think I need more explanation.

I love wine, too. Wine is a beautiful creation. Colour, taste, palette, aroma you name it. It’s such a delicate drink which I have so much respect for. But ever since I had this sake experience I somehow enjoyed wine as almost like an outsider. I still truly enjoyed wine but somehow I feel like I’m a voyager of the world of wine..

I assume appreciation to taste has 2 types.

One comes from simply from taste.

The other comes from a story or some kind of relationship related to the taste.

Let’s say your mother’s home made food is always fantastic. You grew up with it so whenever you eat, especially after while not having a chance to eat, you really appreciate it.

What happened to me was similar to this. I grew up eating Japanese food. There is a great matching between Japanese food and sake.
I think sake was a trigger to remember food I grew up with and at the same time the culture which I have grew up with.

For me this experience and realisation is special. Especially after 16 years of living in London It’s a rediscovery of my own culture.
Now it’s time to drink Sake and celebrate my culture.

We had a hair cut session at Neil’s house for a photo shoot the other day. A location for the shoot will be probably Hampstead Heath which is our favourite park in London to mingle with nature.

Thanks so much for Kyoko for anexcellent cuts. She does mobile service and you can reach her on http://www.facebook.com/pages/Scissor-Paper-Rock-London-Mobile-Hairdresser-By-Kyoko/235415036495464

Could Francis Bacon create clone of Melvyn Bragg….?

Feb 22, 2012 | | 0 comments

I have a South Bank show on DVD.

It was filmed in the mid 80s. The painter Francis Bacon was interviewed by Melvyn Bragg. The interviews took place at Tate Britain, in Bacon’s studio, in a restaurant and in a gambling club in Soho. In the restaurant he was drinking some wine and became drunk and his speech started to slur. But he said a very interesting thing to Melvyn Bragg.

” I’m a painter so how can I re-create you”..

I thought his art was expression not re-creation.
For me “re-creation” pronounced by him was quite surprising as I’ve always thought his painting was expression of some kind of twisted or chaotic emotion of his.
Then I thought that he expressed what his art is about really nicely.

I assume expression is always related to re-creating some kind of form or matter. Even abstract art comes out of something which needs some kind of subject matter which the artist can rely on.
I realised writing songs for me is re-creating chaos in my head….

But one thing which I want to mention is re-creation always has to face some kind of limitations.

For Bacon using paint. For me using sound.
If there are no limitations…..
What could he re-create……?

Maybe…Bacon could create clone of Melvyn Bragg….?
